Biography:
Interviews

Recorded in Kingston, Jamaica at studios like Black Scorpio and Main Street, and with dynamic rhythms from the likes of the Firehouse Crew, this is modern roots reggae of the very best kind. Rootsman Credential, once again, showcases Everton Blender's formidable talents as a strikingly original lyricist: and vocalist.

The album kicks off with the unmistakable sound of Everton's huge international hit, Ghetto People Song, produced by Tony Rebel for Flames Productions. From the opening song, it's strictly culture and serious reasoning from the article Everton Blender on tracks like Why Do We Have to War and Bingi Man a Come. Everton sings praises to Jah on Higher High and I Love Jah Jah, while exposing hypocrisy on False Words. Whatever the song, there is always a conscious message, couched in lyrics rich in proverbs and symbols, and delivered in Blender's uniquely inspired and intense voice.

On Can't Stop the Vibes, Everton shifts into R&B style over a funky reggae rhythm. While Danger in Your Eyes (a version of the classic Studio One cut by the Paragons available an Full Up: Best of Studio One V. 2, HBEA 11661-7514-2) is straight ahead lovers rock, Blender specializes in delivering deadly serious lyrics over a seductive, sensuous rhythm -- examples are Weeping Eyes and the sublime These Hands (an exquisitely produced track featuring top-class musicians like Sly, Chinna. Flabba Holt and Dean Fraser). But perhaps the best example of Blender's style is the first single from Roofsman Credential, Slick Me Slick.

Rootsman Credential is sure confirmation that Everton Blender is back with a vengeance, pointing the way forward for conscious, cultural reggae. As the man himself would say "Righteousness and loving can't done. ... Take it from your brother Everton Blender."
